Somatic experiencing... is a body oriented approach to the healing of trauma and other stress disorders. The theory comes from the multidisciplinary studies of stress physiology, psychology, ethology, biology, neuroscience, medical biophysics and indigenous healing practices. The "SE" approach releases traumatic shock which transforms PTSD and heals wounds of childhood trauma and everyday anxiety and stress.

Therapy Sessions

Our goal is to create a safe, nonjudgmental environment. We use this relationship to help you explore the dark and not so dark aspects of yourself, bringing you into the light of who you are meant to be. Thrive, breathe and relax. The list below is a convenient way for you to quickly jump to the various topics listed on this page.

The decision to enter therapy is a personal one and may take time.

Some indicators that you may need therapy are:

  • You feel an overwhelming sense of helplessness and sadness, lacking hope
  • You make the same mistakes over and over
  • Your relationships fail and you are dumb founded every time
  • You feel "stuck" and you are not sure why
  • You have anxiety and worry much of the time
  • You have suffered a recent loss and are struggling to make sense of your life now
  • You're moody and everyone, including yourself are struggling to keep up with your changes
  • You are hurtful to yourself or others, self-sabotaging
  • You have poor self-esteem, meaning you are never pleased with yourself, the way you look, or anyone else
  • You have suffered either childhood distress or "trauma"
  • You have suffered a recent trauma, and are still having flashbacks, nightmares, and intrusive thoughts
  • You are a professional in the helping field and find yourself with job burnout, lack of motivation and sleep.

Therapy can last from a few weeks to a year or more

This depends on the client, willingness to work and the issues you are working on. I have techniques that can help you make rapid improvements, and some techniques take longer. There is not a standard amount of time. You and I develop treatment goals, and assess those goals on a regular basis.

Getting to Know You

The first session is to get to know you. Therapy is a time set aside for only you. Therefore, making you comfortable is my primary focus. Since many people are nervous and fear being judged, I strive to make it as easy as possible. I will ask questions about your family background, trauma history, relationships, health, and your primary reason for wanting support and help. Some individuals are more cautious and take time to build trust; others love to jump right in and are relieved to be in therapy.

Due to these uncertain, volatile and unpredictable times on the planet, depth and ‘shadow’ work are more important than ever. People are flocking to therapy to work on the deeper issues causing their anxiety and uneasiness. We use techniques and approaches from different traditions and schools of thought in psychology including:

  • Traditional talk therapy where you process your problems and have a place to share all your emotions and issues.
  • Somatic experiencing which teachers you to learn to regulate your own nervous system, manage anxiety and stress and begin to integrate your trauma. Research shows that the body holds and stores all of our patterns and traumas. We need to use the body to release them.
  • Journaling which aids in processing on your won and deepen you understanding of your issues, problems and complaints.
  • Gestalt therapy which helps you meet, give voice to and integrate the various ‘parts’ we battle with inside ourselves.
  • Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT, an ancient Chinese medicine technique of ‘tapping’ on certain chi points to regulate and restore beliefs that do not work and clear unhealthy patterns.
  • Spiritual Guidance and meditation using nature, consciousness and philosophy so help you to grow your expansive sense and current self awareness.
